Acura TLX | Price, Features and PerformanceApr 13rd, 2020
In an auto market increasingly dominated by chunky, imposing SUVs, the 2020 Acura TLX offers a refreshingly different experience. As a mid-size sports sedan with slick, swept-back looks and a low, road-hugging profile, this is a car that screams ‘fun to drive’ from first sight. But do the rest of the TLX’s features fulfill that promise?
Powertrain, Performance, and Fuel Economy
The base TLX powertrain is a 2.4L, I4 design providing 206 horsepower and 182lb-ft of torque. However, as befits a self-declared sports sedan, there’s a meatier option available in the form of a 3.5L V6.
This mill pushes out an altogether more exciting 290 horsepower and 267lb-ft of torque, which may be overkill for routine highway driving, but gives satisfyingly smooth acceleration and passing power.
The lower-powered engine is coupled with an eight-speed automatic transmission and front-wheel drive, while the V6 powers intelligent all-wheel drive via a nine-speed auto transmission with paddle shifters.
With such a large difference in engine capacities, the fuel economy covers a fairly wide range too. The base model manages highly respectable figures of 10.2L / 100km in the city and 7.4L / 100km on the highway. The V6 configuration is surprisingly economical considering its power, with figures of 11.4L / 100km and 7.7L / 100km for city and highway respectively.
Interior Features and Comfort
All the performance in the world is wasted if the car’s interior doesn’t provide a comfortable ride. Happily, every trim in the TLX range has standard features including multi-zone air conditioning and climate control, comfortable heated seats with lumbar adjustment, and a heated steering wheel.
Infotainment is handled by two screens, with the upper one fixed to navigation duties, and the lower touchscreen controlling all other instrument and entertainment functions. Many functions can also be activated and controlled by voice for easy, hands-free operation while driving.
All trims include a CD player, MP3 audio, and auxiliary audio inputs, while trims above the base also boast an integrated hard drive media storage system. Smartphone connectivity is provided by Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, while Bluetooth connection is provided on every trim.
Safety and Driver Assist
The 2020 Acura TLX contains a solid list of safety and driver assist technologies as standard across all trims, including:
– Lane keeping assist with lane departure warning.
– Backup camera and rear parking aid.
– Individual tire pressure monitors.
– Adaptive cruise control.
– 4-wheel disc braking with ABS
– Traction control and electronic stability control.
Higher trims also benefit from advanced active features including cross-traffic alerts, blind spot monitoring, and more.
2020 Acura TLX Pricing
The base trim TLX with its 2.5L engine has a starting price of $36,990, with the V6 all-wheel drive version coming in at a surprisingly affordable $41,990.
